Meeman-Shelby State Park is a 13,467 acre park bordering the Mississippi River. Two-thirds of this park is bottomland hardwood forest of cypress, large oaks and tupelo. This park has some 200 species of birds a lot of deer, turkey and beavers. There is a museum and nature center in this park named for Edward J. Meeman who was a courageous conservation editor of the Scripps-Howard newspaper. He also helped establish this park and the Great Smoky Mountains park. Fishing and boating at Meeman-Shelby State Park is on two lakes. One of these lakes is Piersol Lake and the other lake is 125 acre Poplar Tree Lake. Year round fishing is at this lake with some outstanding largemouth bass, bream and catfish. This is a very good article. I think everyone would enjoy reading it.
